About

Biography

Ian (he/him) is a composer, conductor, improvisor, and pianist. Through his music making Ian hopes to nurture creativity and build community.

 

Ian holds a Master and Bachelor of Music from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Among his mentors were Prof. Charles Horton and Dr. Elroy Friesen. He studied composition at the European American Musical Alliance at La Schola Cantorum in Paris, France. 

 

Since 2012, Ian has served as Music Director at St. Mary’s Cathedral, in Winnipeg, where he directs the choir, collaborates with a team of cantors, and plays the organ among many other musical tasks. 

 

He is also an active piano teacher in the community, where from the very first lesson he teaches composition and improvisation in addition to the standard beginner curriculum.
